Sheikh Sina Staff Bios
Andy
I have recently completed my Masters degree in African Studies and so naturally chose to come to the Asian part of an African country to put my new found knowledge to good use! Initially beginning as a volunteer, I now find myself as the Capacity Building Coordinator, working with other development projects to develop the skills of the local Bedouins. I also am the maker of Sheikh Sina's finest cups of tea.

I first came to the Sinai in October 2007 and I was unable to leave. The place stole my heart. I packed up my life in Germany and now I live here. I took my experience in marketing and sales from Germany and now I put them to great use within Sheikh Sina. On my time off I go with my family to the beach to let the dog play in the waves and for myself to completely unwind on the lapping shores of the Red Sea. The Sheikh Sina make fun at me, they tell me I am unable to get angry, as my smiles and laughter never seem to stop.

I was born in Sheikh Awad when my mother was shepherding the goats, she could not get to the hospital in time so I was born in a cave. I grew up near St Katherine’s. Then I started to work for Mountain Trek enterprise and Sheikh Mousa five years ago organizing their operations and treks. Then back to the mountains. I started with Sheikh Sina 6 months ago. I like being in the mountains because this is where I was born it is quite you can find yourself and I am able to unwind. I have learnt much about the animals the plants and the mountains history. The mountains are my true home.

I am 18 now and live in St Katherine’s Village. When I was a teenager I lived up in the mountains. Since my time in Sheikh Sina I have been trained in first aid and in computers. As one of the ten girls working in St Katherine’s I feel happy that hopefully in the future more girls can work like me. I now want to go to university to study art. To relax I like to read books.

I am 28. When I was small I dreamt of being a coach for a football team. Now the team I support is Cairo’s Zamalak. When I am not in Sheikh Sina I also work on the summit of Mount Sinai. Before Sheikh Sina I was a guide. When I do not work in the mountains I still go to the mountains to relax. Since I have been at Sheikh Sina I have been trained in computers, first aid and in answering your enquiries. I look forward to receiving yours.

I am 16 years old and I am working with Sheikh Sina for the experience. As Sheikh Mousa’s oldest son one day the responsibility of Sheikh Sina will move to me. Hopefully one day I want to be a lawyer. I also will like to start swimming, but sadly there is not much water here. Like the rest of the team the mountains are a special place for me and they let me relax.

When I was at school I liked to study computers at university. I then started working in a restaurant. I like to shop on my time off and by new books to read. Then I try to keep in shape by lifting weights. After school was finished I used to then go and work in the mountains as a guide, but after an accident I was happy to work for Sheikh Sina and I hope to start training in plumbing, carpentry and as an electrician.

I was at school for 8 years, but had to work as a guide and with camels at the same time. This was because my mother died when I was young and my Dad has left home long ago. When I finished my military service I helped to manage the Fox Camp in St Katherine’s. I have been part of Sheikh Sina from the beginning, for 1 and a half years and have already become renowned for my delicious cooking over the fire and for my never-ending big smiles. When I am not working I relax by playing football and driving cars.
